The board could have raised taxes by 4%, which was on the plan for the evening, but they chose the higher rate.

There is a 1% real estate tax with a.5% district share, a.7% district share of earned income, and a 62.40 mills school tax on the dollar rate in the budget.

Board members say that part of the reason for the tax increase was contractual responsibilities.

The Board President said that she knew any tax increase would be unpopular, especially with the economy the way it is now, when she talked about why she voted for the tax increase.
