The beloved Bethlehem pizza store suffered damage from a fire almost two years ago. Now, the family-run business is moving to a new location in Christmas City!
According to co-owner Marc Kubushefski, Paranormal Pizza, which specializes in freshly cooked vegan pizza, has found a new physical location at 125 E. Third St. on Bethlehem's South Side.
The new facility will run between Martin's furniture store and King Wing, a restaurant serving gyros, chicken wings, "fat sandwiches," and other dishes. It is anticipated to open early in 2019. The original Paranormal Pizza site at 554 N. New St. in Bethlehem debuted for business in March 2022. However, a fire that destroyed the restaurant and upstairs apartments forced the store to temporarily close less than a year later, in February 2023. Along with his twin brother Joey Kubushefski, Kubushefski runs Paranormal Pizza. "We are excited for a fresh start in a new area," he said.
Since the area is now empty, we must first put in a lot of labor to outfit it. Our goal is to open there in 2025's first quarter. Due to problems with the landlord's insurance, the Kubushefskis' intentions to reopen Paranormal Pizza at its original New Street site were postponed, according to March. Marc remarked, "We should have been back in business a long time ago, but it was beyond our control." We had to move on after more than a year. We have to take action now.
Following the condemnation of Paranormal Pizza's former New Street location, the Kubushefskis have been using a food truck to host Paranormal Pop-Up events at other local establishments for over a year, including Yergey Brewing in Emmaus, Sherman Street Beer Company in Allentown, and Vegan Treats and Bonn Place Brewing Co. in Bethlehem. Customers may savor the company's vegan cheesesteaks (regular or buffalo), fries, loaded fries, onion rings, and chick'n sandwiches (Buffalo, barbecue, or garlic parm) at the pop-ups. Seitan wings (Buffalo, barbecue, garlic parm, and sauce of the month) are also available.
Marc added, "We have also been creating a gyro that is incredibly popular." It is a meat made from soy. Our cheesesteaks and chick'n sandwiches, such as the chick'n bacon ranch sandwich, are among our best-selling dishes. The Kubushefskis have been holding semi-regular Paranormal Pizza pop-up events at various Lehigh Valley eateries, such as Roasted on Fourth Street in south Bethlehem and Jay's Local on Liberty Street in Allentown's West End, to help satisfy customers' demands for pizza.
Using their ovens and other equipment, the Kubushefskis collaborate with these companies, and around a week and a half prior to the events, they usually start taking preorders for the pizzas. "In the upcoming months, we hope to host further pizza pop-ups," Marc stated. "We attempt to complete them every two weeks, but it is not always feasible."
The first physical location of Paranormal Pizza opened its doors in 2022, but the company's roots can be found in the beginning of the pandemic, when Marc started sharing pictures of his vegan pizzas on Instagram. The Kubushefskis decided to create a physical restaurant to meet the increasing demand for their pizzas after they attracted the attention of vegans throughout the Lehigh Valley. "Alien Bounty Hunter" (garlic knot crust, red sauce, cashew mozzarella, seitan pepperoni, Beyond Sausage, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms) and "Lone Gunmen" (olive oil, garlic, cashew mozzarella, oregano, crushed red pepper, chick'n, broccoli, and spicy agave) are two popular vegan pizzas. Other standout items on the menu are the chick'n sandwiches, seitan wings, and french fries.
With assistance from Bethlehem's Rising Tide Community Loan Fund, which has given the company a $200,000 loan for leasehold upgrades and working capital for its new space, the Kubushefskis are equipping the space in south Bethlehem.
The new Paranormal Pizza location will be part of a row of establishments that also houses F&A Grog House and U & TEA restaurants.
