Soon, a location for food, fuel, and other necessities will cease operations in Lehigh County.
According to a store employee, a Turkey Hill convenience store and gas station will close on October 13 at 141 W. Main St. in Macungie.
The employee was unable to continue talking about the matter because she was unaware of the elements that went into the company's decision to close the Macungie facility. Turkey Hill's parent company, EG America, chose to "pass on the opportunity to speak" in response to an email request for additional information, including the rationale behind the impending shutdown. According to an online historical narrative, farmer Armor Frey started selling bottles of milk to neighbors from his automobile in 1931, which is how Turkey Hill started as a family-owned dairy business in Pennsylvania.
The dairy expanded as its business grew, making and distributing ice cream all over Lancaster County. In order to better promote their dairy goods, Armor Frey's sons Charles and Emerson took over the dairy operations and later opened the first Turkey Hill Minit promote convenience store in the late 1960s. The historical report continues, "In Lancaster County, Turkey Hill Minit Markets were the predominant choice for convenience stores; in certain situations, stores were positioned as close as three blocks apart."
"The dairy and stores were sold to Kroger where the brand continued to thrive after 20 successful years. Then, in 2018, EG Group bought the convenience store division of Kroger, including the chain within its US operations. A corporate description states that EG America owns and runs more than 1,600 convenience stores and fuel sellers in the US.
Cumberland Farms, Certified Oil, Fastrac, Kwik Shop, Loaf N' Jug, Minit Mart, Quik Stop, Sprint, Tom Thumb, and Turkey Hill are among the ten brands under which the corporation operates across thirty states. EG America is a division of the UK-based EG Group, which the Issa family created in 2001. The UK, US, Europe, and Australia are among the regions where EG Group has operations. According to the corporate website, Turkey Hill has more than 250 outlets in Ohio and Pennsylvania and serves millions of consumers every day.
There are over twenty regional Turkey Hill sites in the Lehigh Valley and adjacent areas. In June, a second regional Turkey Hill restaurant on Broadway in Wind Gap closed.
