The Hotel Bethlehem will host a Roaring ‘20s Party, featuring the swinging sounds of Dolcetto, a three-course dinner and four-hour open bar, 5-9 p.m. March 1.

The ‘20s is a special decade at the hotel, which first opened its doors in 1922. The hotel features 125 guest rooms and nine new extended stay suites, along with two restaurants, two elegant ballrooms and seven meeting rooms.

One notable difference between this event and any event held 100 years ago will be a four-hour open bar, as the hotel opened in 1922, during the Prohibition. 


Guests will end the evening on a sweet note with a dessert presentation featuring handcrafted creamy orange posset with bittersweet chocolate shavings.


The 21-and-over event is $150 per person, including tax and gratuity.

At 1410 Grape St. in Whitehall Township, Thirsty Turtle Tavern, a full-service, family-friendly restaurant and bar serving casual American fare, is anticipated to open in March or April.

There used to be a Keystone Pub & Grill on the property, but it closed in September after 12 years of operation. The original Keystone Pub facility in Bethlehem Township, situated at 3259 Easton Ave., remains operational as usual. A group of workmen has been renovating the Whitehall area with new upgrades such as kitchenware, carpeting, and lighting. A new lounge area will include cozy chairs and an electric fireplace, while the walls will be lined with black subway tiles, rustic wood, and new bricks. Additionally, the restaurant's front section now has new partial walls that provide a more private eating experience and a space that can accommodate private gatherings of up to thirty people.


There will be about 200 seats available at Thirsty Turtle Tavern, spread over booths, low-top tables, and high-top seating. The owner wants the place to be a great place for all age groups with great food, great vibes, and affordable pricing. The menu at Thirsty Turtle Tavern will feature both international delicacies like sushi, tacos, and pasta meals in addition to American favorites like burgers and chicken wings. The restaurant will serve 20 appetizers, 20 burgers, 15 pizzas, and 20 handhelds. Nachos, taquitos, stuffed mushrooms, mac & cheese bits, boneless and traditional wings, tableside guacamole, spinach and artichoke dip, and poutine with pulled pork are just a few of the appetizers that can be shared.

There will be additional Italian options outside pizza, such as meatball skillet, penne vodka, and chicken parmigiana. Additionally, the restaurant's front section now has new partial walls that provide a more private eating experience and a space that can accommodate private gatherings of up to thirty people. 

Thirsty Turtle Tavern is tentatively open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Thirsty Turtle Tavern will have a new epoxy bar top and a full bar with about 50 seats. The bar will serve a large selection of wines, classic and signature cocktails, and 25 draft beers. Patel also intends to install new windows that open to the front patio later this year, giving the bar area an al fresco feel on pleasant days. They intend to have 38 TVs, giving the feeling of a restaurant and sports bar. 


Patel intends to open multiple Thirsty Turtle Taverns in the area, the first of which is the new Whitehall eatery. Patel is thinking about opening more restaurants in different areas, such as the Reading and Wyomissing areas, but no other locations have been finalized as of yet. In the coming months, Patel also intends to open a second Fat Patty's—a sports bar and casual dining concept with a burger specialty—in Toms River, New Jersey.

In Whitehall, Thirsty Turtle Tavern is replacing Keystone Pub’s former Whitehall location, which owner Savvas Kiprislis closed in September to spend more time with family and focus on running the pub’s Bethlehem Township location.Prior to Keystone Pub, the Whitehall site was home to a Lone Star Steakhouse.

Easton Area School District district authorized Alloy 5 and CHA to provide design work for the proposed new building on the current high school campus's northeastern corner, at the corner of 25th Street and Route 22, where there is presently a baseball field.

Other options considered but rejected Tuesday night included a western location site, a middle campus location site, and a hybrid construction building at the same approved location at the 25th Street and Route 22 corner. The new high school will encompass between 450,000 and 480,000 square feet with a projected 3,200 student enrollment. By comparison, the current building is 377,000 square feet and is exceeding capacity.


Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 2027, with project completion set for July 2031. The project cost is expected to fall between $290 million and $320 million.

Board member Michael Simonetta did not expect the project to cost that much. During the design phase and development, there are economies and efficiencies. The numbers are to be considered and should not be taken lightly. The board members will vote for the location of the upcoming high school soon.

Other menu highlights include appetizers such as fried ravioli, pizza fries and Sicilian arancini rice balls with meat; and sweets such as cheesecake, tiramisu and chocolate chip cookies.

Yimi Cool Pad:

Cool Pad Yimi opened Oct. 18. The business provides a selection of Chinese Lego kits, action figures, Chinese jewelry, lanterns, plush toys and balloons.

Fox’s House of Jerky:

Fox’s opened in early October. The shop carries a huge range of jerky, including beef, fish, game, hog, turkey and exotic. Some of the exotic selections include alligator, elk, buffalo, camel, kangaroo, salmon and shark.

Evil Empire Comics & Evil Empire House of Horrors:

Evil Empire has doubled the size of its store and is once again growing. To incorporate Civil War relics like as guns, sabers, Civil War periodicals, military figures, and model kits, Evil Empire has partnered with Battle Ready Empire.

Bee & Butterfly Cafe:

Late November saw the opening of Bee & Butterfly Cafe. The cafe now occupies the area where Babushka's restaurant had stood. Handcrafted teas, coffees, and lattes are available at the new cafe. Additionally, it offers delectable dishes like bagels, breakfast burritos, and desserts.

Bosses at Bargain:

Bargain Bosses just opened and sells closeout and bulk goods. The company sells a range of goods every weekend, including clothes, tools, cleaning supplies, and copy paper.

Fruitz Forgotten:

Forbitten Fruitz opened at the end of October. The company sells pies, cupcakes, cheesecakes, mini cakes, cookies, pastries, and fresh fruits dipped in chocolate. Every weekend, there are also vegan, sugar-free, and gluten-free options available.

Latin Cuisine Mamacitas:

The Mamacitas Latin Cuisine restaurant will open in January. Among other menu highlights, the restaurant will serve chicken, pork chops, sandwiches, salads, Shepherd's pie, Spanish red and white rice, shrimp or beef kabobs, and pasta dishes.

The Kitchen of Yo Mama:

In December, Yo Mama's Kitchen opened for business. The location that Mi's Korean Kitchen once occupied is now occupied by the new eatery. Yo Mama's is a gluten-free eatery that serves salads, wraps, hot and cold sandwiches, pizzettas, dinners, and omelets. 

Joanlyn Events:

Joanlyn Events opened at the end of October. Joanlyn Events is a luxury event design business that does weddings, corporate events, birthdays, gender reveal parties, Sweet 16 parties, quinceañeras, flower arrangements, holiday decor, balloon bouquets, and more.

The new tenants are joining more than 100 stores at the Quakertown Farmers Market, which was launched as a produce and general merchandise auction in 1932 by farmer Stanley Rottenberger.

A shopping mall in Northampton County is fully occupied as a national fashion chain prepares to open its first Lehigh Valley store. Trendy Man, a menswear company with over 25 locations in six states, is planning to open a retail store within the next few weeks at the Palmer Park Mall in Palmer Township.

The store, occupying an upgraded facility that originally housed American Eagle Outfitters, is tentatively planned to open Feb. 1. The mall’s roster features more than 40 tenants, including prominent chains such as Boscov’s, Spencer’s and Dairy Queen/Orange Julius and local favorites such as Freeman Jewelers, Spin Me Round, and Logan’s Sports Collectibles. Following the opening of Trendy Man will be another coming-soon tenant.

A second location of Ohana WonderTown Playground, a multi-level children's recreational facility, is expected to open in the first half of 2025. The new Palmer facility will have a similar idea as the South Mall location, with foam floors and bi-level, soft-play structures incorporating bridges, tunnels, slide boards, obstacle courses, ball pits, foam pits, climbing apparatus and more. There also will be small trampolines and a variety of ride-on toys. The new indoor playground will cover around 4,000 square feet, or 1,000 square feet bigger than the South Mall location. The design will differ from the South Mall facility in that it will feature two play areas—one for different age groups on each side of the space.

Other businesses opening at the Palmer Park Mall in 2024 include Blue Flame Events, featuring items from more than 100 local crafters and small businesses, including handcrafted home décor, toys, and fashion accessories; and Santalexa & Fitness Love, offering hair care products and services, eyelashes, and more.

The mall also bid farewell to a few shops over the past year:

American Eagle Outfitters, a popular clothing chain, closed its Palmer Park Mall store last January; Milford Furniture, selling a wide variety of household furnishings, closed its Palmer Park Mall store in March; and The Arcade Era, offering retro and modern arcade games, closed its Palmer Park Mall location in the summer, but it is continuing to operate a location at the Stroud Mall.

Zillow recently listed their Top 10 Most Popular housing markets. Using housing measures that represent consumer demand, such as pageview traffic, home value growth, and the speed at which properties sell, Allentown PA came in at number six on the list!

In late January, Kresgeville Eatery & Bar, a full-service restaurant serving homemade breakfast, lunch, and dinner fare, is anticipated to open at 593 Interchange Road in Polk Township, Monroe County's Kresgeville neighborhood.

The refurbished structure where Cherry's Family Restaurant once stood will now host the full-service eatery. The three-year-old Coplay Eatery, located at 1214 Chestnut St. in Coplay, is also owned and run by Sibri and his wife, Edith Garcia, who wanted to expand their clientele.

Over the past few months, a group of contractors has been assisting Sibri and Garcia in renovating the Kresgeville property, which they bought earlier this year.

With space for over 100 patrons, the restaurant will have new flooring, lighting, furnishings, restrooms, and other upgrades. Kresgeville Eatery & Bar will serve the same cuisine as Coplay Eatery.

Patrons can anticipate appetizers like chicken wings, corn fritters, and pierogies; wraps like avocado BLT, Philly cheesesteak, and grilled chicken Italiano; and specialty angus burgers like the Texas (topped with barbecue sauce, bacon, cheddar cheese, and onion rings), Jersey Breakfast (topped with a pork roll, American cheese, and an over-medium egg), and Diablo (topped with jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and diablo sauce). Popular options, including baked meatloaf, roast turkey, marinated chicken breast, breaded veal patty, chopped sirloin steak, and a carnitas platter are among the entrees, which are served with soup, salad, and a choice of potato or veggie.

Additionally, there are Italian delicacies like spaghetti, cheese manicotti, and chicken parmesan; baskets of fish and chips, clam strips, and chicken fingers; and hot sandwiches and melts including open-faced corned beef or turkey reuben, tuna melt, and meatball parm sub. Kresgeville Eatery & Bar will have a full bar with beer, wine, and cocktails, in contrast to Coplay Eatery, which is a BYOB restaurant.

In addition, the new eatery will provide catering, takeout, and a space for private parties.

Property taxes are kept within the $240 million spending plan, but a new trash contract has resulted in a large rise in trash collection prices.

The existing yearly trash fee of $415 will rise to $605 per unit. The present tax rates of 23.53 mills on land and 4.45 mills on developed property will remain in effect.

In other business, Bridge Brothers Inc. was given a $62,309 contract by the council to buy a pedestrian bridge structure for Dixon Street. Additionally, the council gave Grace Industries Inc. a $117,830 contract to install and fix the Dixon Street pedestrian bridge. Cynthia Mota, the president of the council, expressed her satisfaction with the project's advancement for the protection of schoolchildren who utilize the bridge.

The council also approved a transfer of the intermunicipal liquor license to Radhe Krishna Mart Inc., located at 1234-1246 Lehigh St., with a vote of 6-1. The current convenience shop will be able to sell wine and beer thanks to the liquor license. The applicant was the successful bidder at an October Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board auction where an expired license from Upper Macungie Township was up for bid. 

Before the council meeting, a mandatory public hearing was held, but no public comments were received. The municipal solicitor informed the council that it could only decide to reject the request in the event that there was strong evidence that the transfer would jeopardize community safety.
